James cuts back and feels much better
A health scare helped James from Northumberland realise that he was drinking too much. After reducing his drinking from every day to a small amount a couple of times a week, the chartered surveyor now feels much happier in himself. He also has a lot more energy which he has used to get fit.
James said “I’d got used to regular drinking after work and it just crept up and up and became part of my routine to unwind. I didn’t exercise and felt tired most mornings.
“Then I had an epileptic seizure, something I hadn’t had for 20 years and realised that my lifestyle including my drinking needed to change.”
James decided that rather than stop drinking altogether he needed to change his relationship with alcohol. It had become a habit to unwind after work, so he decided to replace it with a different habit and took up running.
“I have never been sporty but running helped me enormously. I very quickly felt much better about my health and the endorphins really lifted my mood. “
James worried that drinking less would have a negative impact on his social life, but he’s found that hasn’t happened and he can still enjoy parties and get-togethers with friends.
“Sometimes I might have a couple of drinks at a party or sometimes I’ll choose the non-alcoholic option but now I feel I have the choice.
“I’m sleeping better and feel so much sharper. I’d encourage everyone to think about their relationship with alcohol as drinking less can make such a big difference to your life.”
